- For the Cake:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 large eggs
- For the Topping:
- 1 cup caramel sauce
- 1 cup chopped pecans
- 1 cup chocolate chips (semisweet or milk chocolate)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a large sheet pan (approximately 18×13 inches).
- Prepare Cake Batter:
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In a saucepan, heat water and vegetable oil until boiling. Pour this mixture over the dry ingredients and mix well.
- Add vanilla extract and eggs, mixing until smooth and well combined.
- Bake the Cake:
- Pour the batter into the prepared sheet pan and bake for about 20–25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Add the Topping:
- While the cake is still warm, drizzle caramel sauce over the top.
- Sprinkle chopped pecans and chocolate chips evenly over the caramel layer.
- Cool and Serve:
- Allow the cake to cool completely before cutting into squares. The cake is best served at room temperature.
