TEXAS TURTLE SHEET CAKE

Ingredients

  • For the Cake:
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • For the Topping:
  • 1 cup caramel sauce
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (semisweet or milk chocolate)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a large sheet pan (approximately 18×13 inches).
  2. Prepare Cake Batter:
  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • In a saucepan, heat water and vegetable oil until boiling. Pour this mixture over the dry ingredients and mix well.
  • Add vanilla extract and eggs, mixing until smooth and well combined.
  1. Bake the Cake:
  • Pour the batter into the prepared sheet pan and bake for about 20–25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  1. Add the Topping:
  • While the cake is still warm, drizzle caramel sauce over the top.
  • Sprinkle chopped pecans and chocolate chips evenly over the caramel layer.
  1. Cool and Serve:
  • Allow the cake to cool completely before cutting into squares. The cake is best served at room temperature.
